Job summary

Slifco Electric in Sterling Heights is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to support procurement across electrical construction projects. You will lead purchasing, vendor relations, cost control, and delivery coordination to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

You will collaborate with Project Managers, Estimators, and field teams, review drawings and material requests, generate purchase orders, and seek cost-saving opportunities while maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within electrical or construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of electrical materials and construction procurement practices.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Experience with ERP or purchasing systems preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead purchasing and procurement activities for electrical construction projects.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and material requests to ensure accurate purchasing.
• Generate, manage, and track purchase orders in alignment with project budgets and schedules.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor quotations to ensure competitive pricing and quality materials.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and purchasing terms with suppliers.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Estimators, and field leadership regarding material requirements and lead times.
• Monitor material deliveries and proactively resolve delays or discrepancies.
• Track procurement costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Maintain strong relationships with vendors, distributors, and suppliers.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
• Support forecasting of material needs across active projects.
• Assist in developing and improving purchasing processes and standards.
