Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting is assisting a well-established electrical contractor in Richmond, VA to hire a Project Manager for data center and critical facility projects. You will report to senior leadership, manage client relationships, and drive project execution from kickoff to closeout.

You will lead scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans, coordinate with vendors, and ensure safety and quality across projects while growing toward senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction project management experience, including time as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager.
• 2+ years managing electrical projects on IT, telecom, data center, or other critical infrastructure work.
• Knowledge of data center electrical distribution, structured cabling, and white space build-outs.
• Experience in active or operating facilities or retrofit/critical systems work.
• Strong organizational, scheduling, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client, a well-established electrical contractor with a national footprint, is seeking a Project Manager to manage electrical scopes on data center and critical facility projects. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager and operations leadership, this client-facing role is ideal for a proven project manager who is ready to take ownership of complex projects and continue growing toward senior-level leadership. WHAT YOU'LL DO

Project Management & Delivery

• Manage day-to-day project execution from kickoff through closeout on one or more data center or critical facility projects.
• Help build project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans with senior leadership.
• Support estimating and proposal reviews for new work.
• Track progress against design, budget, and schedule goals, and flag risks early.
• Visit jobsites regularly to monitor progress, solve problems, and support foremen and field leadership.
• Promote a strong safety culture and make sure company, client, and project requirements are followed.

Financial Management

• Track project costs and prepare monthly forecasts, recommending corrective actions when needed.
• Prepare and submit timely billings and help keep cash flow strong.
• Manage RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
• Work with the Senior Project Manager to plan upcoming labor and material needs.

Client, Team & Vendor Coordination

• Act as a day-to-day point of contact for customers and general contractors.
• Coordinate field crews, internal staff, and subcontractors.
• Work with vendors and suppliers to keep procurement and material deliveries on schedule.
• Provide regular project updates and reports to senior leadership.

Growth & Development

• Guide and support Assistant Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
• Build strong relationships with clients, field teams, and coworkers.
• Take on increasing responsibility and project size as you grow toward a senior role.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

• 5+ years of construction project management experience, including time as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager.
• 2+ years managing electrical projects on IT, telecom, data center, or other critical infrastructure work.
• Working knowledge of data center electrical distribution, structured cabling, and white space build-outs.
• Experience working in active or operating facilities, or a strong interest in retrofit and critical systems work.
• Strong organizational, scheduling, and time management skills.
• Ability to stay calm and focused under deadlines and outside pressure.
• Clear communication and professional problem-solving skills.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. full-time without sponsorship. Visa sponsorship (including H-1B) is not available.

Preferred

• Mission critical project experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of experience, certifications, and licensing (such as a journeyman electrician license).
• CAPM, PMP, or working toward PMP certification.
• Experience with construction accounting/ERP and electrical estimating software, plus Microsoft Office.
