Job description

The Electrical Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical construction projects and seeing through completion. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, labor requirements, materials, and subcontractor pricing to support profitable project execution and successful bid submissions Estimation Phase

Estimation Phase
  • Detailed Scope of Work: Must be able to write a detailed scope of work from a verbal, written or job walk description. Identifying all labor, materials, subcontractor and equipment needed. Blueprint Analysis: Review and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
  • Cost Take-offs: Calculate the exact quantities of materials (Gear, conduit, cable, switches etc.) and labor hours needed for a project.
  • Bid Submission: Prepare and submit formal proposals and price quotes, ensuring they are competitive while maintaining profitability.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential scope gaps, hidden costs, or site-specific challenges (e.g., night or weekend work, congested ceilings).
Project Management Phase
  • Procurement: Order and schedule the delivery of electrical materials and specialized equipment according to the estimated budget.
  • Field Oversight: Coordinate with on-site superintendents and foremen to monitor progress and ensure work meets budget as well as safety and quality standards.
  • Change Orders: Evaluate and price additions or modifications to the original project scope as they arise.
  • Financial Tracking: Manage project billing, track labor productivity, and compare actual job costs against the original budget
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years of hands on electrical installations and able to identify basic devices
  • 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Project Manager/Estimator or similar role
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems (power, lighting, fire alarm, low voltage, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of NFPA70 and 70E regulations
  • Proficiency with estimating software (Bluebeam, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Excel, word, and outlook
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of labor units, material pricing, and market conditions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Key Requirements & Skills
  • Education/Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in electrical construction. Journeyman or Master Electrician License or certification.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building regulations.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical math skills for complex calculations, negotiation abilities for vendor pricing, and clear communication for client-facing tasks.
