Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for the complete electrical engineering scope of assigned projects. This person will lead all phases of an electrical engineering project, including concept, research, estimating support, component selection, network design, panel design, device layout, device troubleshooting, programming, in-house testing, on-site installation, commissioning, and after-sales support.

A successful Electrical Project Engineer possesses a high level of knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering practices, theories, and programming to manage projects from concept to completion. Responsibilities include creating project execution plans, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, developing recovery plans, and managing deviations. The engineer serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and provides coaching and guidance. In collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Leadership team, the engineer strives for continuous improvement and employs the latest technology and industry best practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop, manage, monitor, and maintain project schedules.
  2. Assign daily tasks to project team members.
  3. Read and interpret scope from contract documents and drawings.
  4. Communicate project, department, and company requirements effectively to stakeholders.
  5. Manage projects to successful completion, prioritizing safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
  6. Participate in or lead the design of control systems, including power distribution, device layout, network design, panel layout, and device selection.
  7. Participate in or lead programming of control systems, including HMI and PLC programming.
  8. Create operation descriptions for complete systems.
  9. Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders, leadership, and clients.
  10. Participate in or lead the commissioning of control systems.
  11. Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with management.
  12. Perform other responsibilities as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office and field locations.
  • Collaborative and success-driven culture.
  • Travel up to 50%.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Repetitive typing and data entry.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible hours, typically M-F, 7 am-4 pm or 8 am-5 pm. Work hours may vary based on project site needs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of project management practices and tools.
  • Proficiency in programming and control device networks for PLCs.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, and develop complete designs adhering to standards.
  • Experience with controls, material handling, baggage handling systems, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to review diagrams, correct errors, and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work non-business hours as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (EE, EET, CECS) or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years in electrical engineering or related fields.
  • Over 2 years in the Material Handling Industry, preferably Baggage Handling.
  • At least 1 year as an Electrical Project Engineer.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain airport security clearance.
