Job summary

IMEG is seeking a lead electrical engineer to drive design efforts for building electrical systems across data centers, hospitals, and K-12 facilities. You will manage projects, mentor teams, and ensure code-compliant, budget-conscious solutions delivering value to clients.

Collaborate with architects, engineers, and PMs to coordinate BIM, energy codes, and smart-building initiatives while staying current with industry trends. Strong communication and mentoring skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • PE license preferred
  • 2 years minimum in building design consulting; 4 preferred
  • Proficiency with design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools including AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, SKM/PTW, Easy Power, ComCheck, Adobe, Bluebeam Revu, MS Office, BIM and Revit

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts as project manager or lead engineer for low- to moderate-complexity projects
  • Collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects
  • Provide engineering solutions and oversight of building electrical systems
  • Work within project budgets
  • Train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Analyze electrical systems and create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain client relationships
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress, percent complete, and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions with senior engineers and consultants
  • Conduct in-process design reviews of electrical system designs, calculations, and specifications
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices and contribute to research, development, and innovation
  • Identify and mitigate electrical-system safety risks
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration
  • Design power distribution, lighting, and specialty electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure
  • Support projects including data centers, hospitals, and K-12 facilities
  • Coordinate across disciplines to deliver code-compliant building solutions

Job description

Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred

  • 2 years of experience minimum required; 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications

  • Knowledge of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings

  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools, including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, or Visual Lighting; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW or Easy Power; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck

  • Proficiency with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu

  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards

  • Proficiency with reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)

  • Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools

  • Proficiency with Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.

  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
