Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior electrical design professional to lead design efforts for consulting and design-build projects in the built environment. The role focuses on renewable energy, microgrids, energy efficiency, and resiliency across hospitals, data centers, and mission-critical facilities.

The candidate will mentor junior engineers, manage third-party consultants, and oversee construction documents from concept through construction delivery, with travel to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in electrical engineering and energy systems.
  • Experience with renewable energy, microgrids, electrical distribution, and lighting.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and building codes.
  • Experience with energy efficiency design engineering, including technical analysis and writing.
  • PE license strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • EIT/FE acceptable.
  • Experience with energy-as-a-service or energy performance contract projects is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design for consulting and design-build projects in the built environment.
  • Design and support delivery of MEP modernizations, central plant upgrades, on-site energy generation, energy efficiency initiatives, and resiliency improvements.
  • Develop renewable energy, photovoltaic, battery energy storage, and microgrid solutions.
  • Support technical development of new market opportunities.
  • Provide and assist with internal construction cost estimates and life-cycle costing of technical concepts.
  • Oversee and direct third-party consultants in producing high-quality construction documents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate design, construction, and operational strategies.
  • Contribute to energy solution implementation, risk mitigation, and cost management.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Carry projects through concept, design, and construction delivery stages.
  • Work with hospitals, data centers, and other mission-critical facilities.
  • Travel to and work onsite at client locations as required.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering and energy systems
  • Experience with renewable energy, microgrids, electrical distribution, and lighting
  • Strong understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC) and building codes
  • Experience with energy efficiency design engineering, including technical analysis and writing
  • Passion for energy efficiency, alternative energy, and sustainability
  • PE license strongly preferred, or ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire
  • EIT/FE acceptable
  • Experience with energy-as-a-service or energy performance contract projects is a bonus
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial, technical, and political landscape of the energy industry is a bonus
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to use tools and operate equipment in the field
  • Ability to ascend and descend exterior and interior ladders/stairs
  • Ability to move safely around construction areas
  • Ability to communicate with clients, stakeholders, and employees
  • Ability to observe equipment in the field
  • Ability to occasionally move or transport up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work around moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, weather conditions, electrical-shock risks, and moderate to very loud noise
