Job description

Job Title: Electrical Process Technician

Location: Charlotte, MI

Our Electrical Process Technician is a critical part of our manufacturing team. You will work as part of the team within the entire manufacturing area. Your responsibilities include installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing hardware and software such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Servo systems, Safety systems, Industrial Networks, Instrumentation, and Sensors. You must understand, explain, and program in ladder logic (preferably RSLogix 5000). Providing effective fault elimination/escalation support to ensure successful return to operation of manufacturing and support equipment is essential. The role requires use of physical tools, software tools, and test instruments for building, installing, and maintaining automated manufacturing systems. You must support the plant's production goals and overall business plans as directed.

This position involves exposure to occupational hazards, including high noise levels, high ambient temperatures, working at heights, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, and working with energized 480 VAC circuits. Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime, is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role within a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment is required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Understanding safety procedures for working on automation equipment in an industrial environment.
  2. Knowledge of electrical safety circuits and systems.
  3. Applying mathematical principles underpinning engineering.
  4. Understanding principles of electrical and electronic circuits and devices.
  5. Working with single and three-phase circuits.
  6. Handling AC and DC motor and control circuits.
  7. Using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  8. Utilizing basic hand and power tools.
  9. Programming and troubleshooting ladder logic.
  10. Automation knowledge (preferably Rockwell) including PLC, VSD, HMI, and hardware/software configuration and troubleshooting.
  11. Instrumentation knowledge for measuring flow, temperature, pressure, etc., and understanding data transmission.
  12. Using software tools for hardware configuration, firmware updates, software modifications, and commissioning.
  13. Knowledge of industrial networking for installation and operation of communication networks.
  14. Applying quality assurance principles to ensure operational consistency and continuous improvement.
  15. Gaining thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and produce risk assessments and method statements when required.
  2. Ability to interpret technical documentation such as device manuals, operating procedures, schematics, fault reports.
  3. Support installation, commissioning, shutdown, startup, and maintenance of various systems and devices.
  4. Diagnostic skills for troubleshooting, diagnosis, rectification, and reporting of automation control systems.
  5. Calibration and configuration of instrumentation interfacing with automation systems.
  6. Support and configuration of industrial networks at all control levels.
  7. Configuration and programming of HMI and PLC systems (preferably Rockwell).
  8. Ability to install and troubleshoot facility power distribution and lighting.
  9. Wiring, assembling, and laying out electrical/electronic systems neatly and professionally.
  10. Possibility to operate forklifts and scissor/boom lifts.
  11. Perform general electrical work including conduit work, wire sizing, and pulling wires.
  12. Sufficient endurance for tasks over long periods.
  13. Adherence to company policies, procedures, and standards.
