Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Electrical/Principal Electrical Engineer for the Sentinel program in Roy, Utah. You will support design, analysis, and integration of electrical subsystems, ensuring compliance with DoD standards.

Responsibilities include coordinating with cross-functional teams, developing PDPs, and reviewing schematics and engineering data. A US citizenship and DoD Secret clearance are required, with relocation assistance possibly available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field required; 2+ years experience or Master's with zero years.
  • Master's degree can substitute for experience; PhD also acceptable.
  • US Citizenship with active DoD Secret Clearance required; SAP access possible.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Electrical/Principal Electrical Engineer to support the Sentinel program in Roy, UT.

Responsibilities
  • Attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings.
  • Support formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
  • Work in a fast‑paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between electrical design and other integration teams.
  • Coordinate electrical system engineering content and work products.
  • Develop LRU electrical and/or cable designs.
  • Develop Product Definition Packages (PDPs) and take them through the full review and release process.
  • Review engineering deliverables such as one‑lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, part data sheets, interconnect connect diagrams, specifications, electrical analysis and trade studies.
  • Perform research, trade studies, evaluation, and systems integration in electrical or electro‑mechanical systems, cables, connectors, power systems, test equipment, and more.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively to understand system level interdependencies that impact electrical requirements and design constraints.
  • Demonstrate leadership principles – Integrity, respect, organization, communication, etc.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of experience, or 0 years of experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience, or 2 years of experience with a Master’s degree, or 0 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Both Levels: Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Both Levels: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
  • Familiarity with industry/Military standards and codes (IEC, NEC, NFPA, IEC 60332, IEEE 299, UL, NEC 770, ISO 9001).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for preparing technical reports, specifications, and presenting design concepts to stakeholders.
  • Experience with electrical designs and/or analysis of subsystems or components.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design, shielding techniques, and thermal management for electronic systems.
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) documents.
  • Strong understanding of cable construction, materials, and performance characteristics (e.g., voltage rating, current carrying capacity, shielding).
  • Knowledgeable of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620.
  • Knowledgeable with Siemens Teamcenter PLM or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with CAD/ECAD tools for cable design (SiemensCapital).
  • Ability to perform cable sizing, voltage drop, and ampacity calculations using analytical methods or software.
  • Experience managing design revisions, change orders, and interfacing with cross‑functional teams.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, milestone reviews, and government contracting.
  • Experience maintaining and reporting status of program activities.
Salary and Benefits
  • Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00.
  • Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00.
  • Potential eligibility for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and Long Term Incentives for higher positions.
  • Standard work schedule is a 9/80.
