Job summary

STV, Inc. seeks a Senior Electrical or Mechanical Inspector for its Transportation Group in Hartford, CT. The role involves inspecting electrical and mechanical systems for transportation infrastructure and documenting field activities.

The candidate will review submittals, RFIs, and test reports while supporting field teams and coordinating with contractors, engineers, and agency representatives to ensure project success. A relevant degree and licenses are preferred. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 4+ years in construction engineering/inspection.
• Experience with electrical or mechanical building/infrastructure systems.
• Strong understanding of CTDOT CEI processes, contract administration and documentation.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections during installation through commissioning to verify compliance with contract documents, plans, specs, shop drawings and codes.
• Document construction activities and maintain daily inspection reports, project records, and quantity documentation.
• Review submittals, RFIs, work plans, test reports, and as-built documentation.
• Support field inspection teams with technical assistance and issue resolution while ensuring project requirements.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and agency representatives to facilitate project success.

Education

Bachelor's degree + 4 years construction engineering/inspection experience or CMIT Level 4, NICET Level 3 or equivalent trade license

Job description

Senior Electrical or Mechanical Inspector for our Transportation Group based in Hartford, CT.

The ideal candidate has experience inspecting and documenting electrical or mechanical systems associated with transportation infrastructure, transit facilities, or other public infrastructure projects in Connecticut or New England.

Electrical experience may include high to low-voltage electrical systems, communication systems, fiber optics, controls, lighting systems, and traction power.

Mechanical experience may include HVAC systems, geothermal systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, and building automation systems (BAS).

Responsibilities:

• Perform field inspections during installation through commissioning, to verify electrical and/or mechanical systems are compliant with contract documents including plans, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable codes.
• Document construction activities and maintain daily inspection reports, project records, and quantity documentation.
• Review contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), work plans, test reports, and as-built documentation.
• Support field inspection teams by providing technical assistance, resolving issues, and ensuring adherence to project requirements.
• Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and agency representatives, to facilitate project success.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience or CMIT Level 4, NICET Level 3 or applicable trade license with 6 years of experience in construction engineering and inspection.
• Experience with electrical or mechanical building and infrastructure systems.
• Strong understanding of CTDOT CEI processes, contract administration, and construction documentation.
• Ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work on-site as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of COMPASS and AASHTOWare Project.
• Professional Engineer License, Electrical Unlimited Journeyperson, or Unlimited Heating, Piping, and Cooling Journeyperson or other Connecticut MEP trade license.
• NETTCP - Concrete Inspector, NETTCP - HMA Paving Inspector, and ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certifications.

Compensation Range: $104,402.58 - $119,317.24
