Job description

As a Senior Electrical Optical Engineer in the Optical Module Group at Nokia's Allentown, PA location, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of high-speed optical engines. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team of electrical, firmware, optics, and mechanical engineers, you will focus on developing cutting-edge transceiver products. Your work will involve characterizing prototype transceiver optical assemblies, modeling high-frequency signal coupling, and engaging directly with designers to ensure seamless module integration.   • Collaborate within a cross-functional engineering team to innovate next-generation optical transceiver products.

  • Design, develop, and characterize electrical and control systems for high-speed transmit/receive optical assemblies (TROSA).

  • Conduct design verification tests to ensure optimal performance of optical devices and modules.

  • Model high-frequency signal coupling and EMI noise susceptibility, providing solutions to enhance signal integrity.

  • Act as the primary engineering liaison with PIC, ASIC, and firmware designers for seamless module integration.

  • Utilize testing equipment such as OSA, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes for device characterization and troubleshooting.

  • Automate lab processes and data collection using programming languages such as MATLAB and Python.

  • Communicate findings and project progress effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


You have:



  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related discipline

  • Strong understanding of opto -electronic devices and high-speed optical technology

  • Experience with high-speed coherent optical device characterization and troubleshooting

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or VB.net for automation of instrument control


It would be nice if you also had:



  • Experience with microprocessors and real-time controls

  • Familiarity with EMI noise susceptibility evaluation methodologies

  • Hands-on experience in performing automated testing of opto-electronic devices

  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across technical teams
