Reports to Operations & Maintenance Manager
This position reports to the Operations & Maintenance Manager in the St Charles Maintenance Department.
Job dimensions
- Participates as a member of the Maintenance Team as an Instrument & Electrical specialist.
- Participates in daily maintenance execution meetings and “Safety Toolbox” discussions.
- Completes assigned work order tasks outlined in the I&E schedule.
- Performs diversified electrical and electronic instrumentation duties, including preventive maintenance of motors, electrical apparatus, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, electrical distribution, and power panels.
- Uses hand and power tools, test and diagnostic meters, electronic instrument calibration devices; experience with forklifts and aerial equipment is a plus.
- Performs electrical troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Reads and interprets manuals, work orders, one-line diagrams, schematics, and diagrams; knowledge of NEC is required.
- Sources and purchases instrumentation and electrical parts as needed.
- Supports Automation Engineer in resolving instrumentation issues with the DCS.
- Updates and modifies instrumentation and electrical procedures as necessary.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment, complying with HSE procedures.
- Maintains technical knowledge through workshops and reviewing technical materials.
- External I&E contract services.
- Assists external contract resources (e.g., APCO, Emerson-Rosemount).
- Supports external control contract personnel during tasks onsite.
- Calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of systems.
- Pressure, flow, level, temperature, pH instrumentation.
- Environmental monitoring systems, packaging equipment, wireless telemetry, electrical systems, and MCCs.
- Performs safety-critical PMs, diagnoses problems, replaces parts, tests, and adjusts equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance and updates records.
- Safety Support
- Job Hazards Analysis, Task Hazard Analysis, Safety Observations, Incident Investigations, Job and Equipment Audits, and action items.
- Provides emergency and scheduled repairs, participates in on-call rotation.
Activities
- The I&E Technician interacts with safety, environmental, production, administrative, shift leaders, process technicians, control technicians, engineers, designers, mechanics, planner/scheduler, etc., to achieve job objectives.

The I&E Technician is responsible for:
- Participating in and passing regulatory and plant-specific HSE training.
- Arriving on time, staying on schedule, and following supervision directives.
- Adhering to health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Meeting job dimension, activity, and accountability expectations.
Qualifications/experience required
- Preferred technical certification in industrial electrical, instrumentation, control, or HVAC systems.
- Preferred NFPA 70(E) certification and OSHA-approved CPR training.
- Minimum 5 years related experience or 2 years of college/trade school plus High School Diploma.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with plant software (CMMS, IP21) is a plus.
- Successful aptitude and skills assessment, troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work well with others, self-motivated, team-oriented.
- Good communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
- Ability to obtain TWIC card.
