Job summary

Greif, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Maintenance/Mechanical Technician for 1st shift (Monday–Friday) in Mount Sterling, KY. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspect electrical gear, and service panels, breakers, and control systems to ensure reliable operations.

High school diploma or equivalent and 2–4 years of hands-on experience are typical requirements. Responsibilities include PLC programming, safety compliance (LOTO/NEC), and collaboration with senior technicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is typically required, with 2–4 years of experience in maintenance or electrical/mechanical roles.
• Experience reading wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints is expected.
• Familiarity with NEC codes, LOTO procedures, and safety standards is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment to detect and prevent problems.
• Start up and shut down equipment per operation requirements and safety procedures.
• Inspect electrical machinery, replace defective parts, and maintain electrical panels and breakers.
• Program, troubleshoot, and document PLCs and control systems.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance tasks such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment to detect and prevent problems.
• Performs start up and shut down of equipment in accordance with operation’s requirements and company safety procedures.
• Visually inspects and tests electrical machinery and equipment.
• Dismantles, inspects, and replaces electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical parts.
• Performs lay‑outs, assemblies, installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical fixtures, apparatuses, equipment, wiring, to include panels and breakers.
• Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots industrial control systems, including instrumentation and power distribution equipment.
• Performs PLC programming, troubleshooting and program documentation maintenance.
• Examines work orders and converses with equipment operators to detect equipment problems.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals, diagrams, sketches, schematics, engineering specifications, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Performs work of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, and principles of operation of electrical equipment.
• Follows guidance from more senior level colleagues.
• May assist more junior level colleagues with routine questions.
• Adheres to safety rules including live panel permits, arc flash safety, NEC codes, and other safety rules that govern electrical trades.
• Follows the operations and company safety procedures and practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Typically possesses High School diploma (or equivalent) and 2-4 years of experience.

Required Skills

• Electrical Systems: Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints; and work with AC/DC motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and high-voltage circuits.
• Mechanical Competency: Extensive knowledge of how mechanical and electrical systems and their components function, including: gearboxes, chains, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mold changes.
• Automation and Controls: Understanding of programmable logic controller (PLC) programming languages, such as Ladder Logic.
• Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency using multimeters, clamp meters, and hand or power tools.

Compliance

Strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Mandatory use of safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.

Compensation Range

Compensation Range: The pay range for this position is $21.78 - $37.12annually. Typically, a competitive wage for new hires will fall between27.00 to27.00. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. If the competitive wage is equal in both fields, the starting rate is the same for all applicants that apply for this role. The starting rate is not representative of future compensation increases. The position may also be eligible for a short‑term incentive.
