Job summary

Greif, Inc. seeks an Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Technician on second shift to diagnose and repair complex equipment in a fast-paced facility. You will analyze PLCs, control circuits, and variable speed drives, assemble and install panels, and ensure compliance with electrical codes.

CAD schematics updates and close coordination with Plant Engineering are essential. The role requires a high school diploma and 5 years of relevant experience, plus strong teamwork and safety discipline.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge a plus; robotics desired.

Responsibilities

Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Technician-Second Shift (Open)
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of industrial electronics and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and use skills to restore equipment operation
  • Perform PLC, control circuit, and variable speed AC drive analysis and troubleshooting
  • Assemble, test, and install electrical control panels based on schematic diagrams.
  • Install wiring and devices for conformance to company specifications or local electrical codes
  • Assemble automation equipment according to engineering instructions, technical manuals and knowledge of electronic systems and components.
  • Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify maintenance
  • Check functioning of newly installed equipment in facility to evaluate performance under actual operating conditions
  • Update electrical schematics to as built using CAD software.
  • Interface electrical control systems with pneumatic and mechanical systems.
  • Work closely with the Plant Engineering Department when assistance is needed to resolve an electrical problem
  • May operate bench lathes, drills, or other machine tools to fabricate parts
  • Capable of performing other duties assigned by management as required
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
  • Document all repairs and adjustments via maintenance work order system
  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists
  • Utilize tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
  • Assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary
  • Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams
  • Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Align and balance new equipment after installation
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Set-up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools
  • Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures
Education and Experience

Generally, possesses a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 5 years of proven experience in the electrical/industrial electronics field. Additional mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge is required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas. Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Robotics experience highly desired.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment including the use of equipment for diagnostic purposes
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to make precise coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate or repair small parts, wiring, electrical, etc from various types of machinery or devices
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and move around the plant for up to 10 hours per day
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on overhead structures, and to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators to assist with repairs and troubleshooting
  • Possess above average computer proficiency is necessary
  • Possess Computer Aided Design (CAD), and PLC troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work overtime willingly including weekends and on-call hours as scheduled

Compensation Range:

The pay range for this position is $24.18 - $41.20 annually. Typically, a competitive wage for new hires will fall between $28.42 to $35.53. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. If the competitive wage is equal in both fields, the starting rate is the same for all applicants that apply for this role. The starting rate is not representative of future compensation increases. The position may also be eligible for a short-term incentive.
