About the Role:

You will be an integral member of our Research & Development team, advancing the state of process control knowledge for Alcoa’s ELYSIS and ASTRAEA projects. As the Electrical Maintenance Engineer at Alcoa's Technical Center (ATC), located in New Kensington, PA; part of your responsibility will be to utilize your hands-on experience to implement, enhance, and troubleshoot electrical systems. More about the role includes:

  1. Manage the safe and successful operation of power systems at (ATC).
  2. Create proposals for applications of new power distribution equipment in compliance with building code and Alcoa standards.
  3. Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve existing electrical systems.
  4. Perform power system load flow analysis with ETAP simulation software, preferred but not required.
  5. Work with cross-disciplinary internal team and external contractors during hands-on troubleshooting and project execution activities.
  6. Evaluate equipment performance and provide input for electrical and reliability improvements.
  7. Lead completion of high voltage audits activities to ensure compliance with Alcoa policies.
  8. Uphold Alcoa’s values in all aspects of work to act with integrity, operate with excellence, care for people, and lead with courage.

What you can bring to this role:

  1. 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  2. 3+ years of experience with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power distribution equipment.
  3. Experience with ETAP or similar Power Distribution Analysis Software is a plus.
  4. Demonstrated working experience in industrial electrical systems.
  5. Understanding of electrical, power distribution systems and technologies, and standards/codes.
  6. Able to manage contractor relationships, including development scopes of work, obtaining estimates, and verification of work.
  7. Excellent ability to troubleshoot problems (in some cases hands-on), especially under time pressure.
  8. Ability to work safely around electrical equipment – identifying hazards, determining proper PPE to wear, and following Lock-Tag-Verify procedures.
  9. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  10. Able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  11. Competency with Microsoft business applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Oracle).
  12. Ability to complete arc flash, power analysis studies, and short circuit studies.
  13. Hands-on experience working with low voltage (<600V), and high voltage (>600V) equipment in an industrial environment.
  14. Ability to write and develop safe work and switching procedures for high voltage power distribution equipment and operation.

Additional Notes:

  1. This position will report to the ATC Breakthrough Technologies M&R Manager.
  2. Travel requirements: Up to 15%.
  3. This position requires the ability to periodically work in noisy and dusty conditions in the presence of molten materials with appropriate hearing PPE.
  4. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position may be subject to U.S. export control requirements under the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
