MCS is hiring for an Electrical/Low Voltage Apprentice in Tyndall AFB, FL. This is a full‑time, permanent position with benefits.
The Electrical/Low Voltage Apprentice must demonstrate the ability to follow directions while being highly motivated. The role requires good communication skills, ability to work well in a team setting, and to keep abreast of industry trends, developments, and applicable government regulations.
Typical duties include:
- Installing and terminating all low‑voltage cabling.
- Terminating, testing, and labeling end‑user devices; comm room build‑out.
- Utilizing industry standards and company‑approved installation methods and techniques.
- Ensuring all work complies with applicable AHJ codes and industry standards.
- Pulling fiber through conduit, man/hand hole systems.
- Installing conduits in trenches, hand/utility holes, and buildings.
- Digging, trenching for cabling.
- Maintaining open communication with direct superior, ensuring that work quality, performance, and materials meet required schedules and expectations.
Required:
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Formal training is preferred.
Certification Requirements:
Ability to obtain a Florida State JLA (Jessica Lunsford Act) badge.
Experience Requirements:
- Must be able to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, etc.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English.
- Knowledge of safe working practices (e.g., OSHA, Lock Out / Tag Out).
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including overtime if necessary.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must have the ability to help crews pull Cat 6 and fiber optic cabling.
- Must be able to work in and around confined spaces and follow all related safety operations for assigned tasks.
- Must possess own transportation, as most locations aren’t accessible with public transportation.
Fundamental Functions
- Work assignments may vary based on client requirements.
- Work may be performed inside a large facility; inside environment may include close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting.
- Work may be performed in the field; outside work may include various environmental conditions including hot, dusty, cold, wet, icy, or windy climates.
Schedule
- Regular attendance following an established work schedule is mandatory.
- Must be able to work any shift/designated hours required.
- May be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work.
- This position may require night and weekend work and could include travel to areas with varying field conditions.
Physical Requirements
- May require climbing ladders, working at heights, and in small, confined spaces such as under raised floors, inside closets, and server racks.
- Must have the capability to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended durations; required to operate in noisy environments with temperatures higher or lower than standard office conditions; must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sitting at desk; phone use and PC/laptop; may require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files; extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
Equipment and Machines
- General office equipment includes PCs/laptops, telephones, copiers, servers, switches, routers, and other computer equipment that supports the network environment.
- General field equipment includes hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts, and test equipment.
- May require operation of motor vehicles as an essential job function. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. The position may require periodic motor vehicle record checks. Employees may be subject to periodic checks; discrepancies may impact eligibility. Safety of all employees is of utmost importance.
Travel
- Travel requirements will vary; not all positions require travel.
- A current passport is required for overseas travel.
Other Essential Functions
- Employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required certifications or licenses through the duration of the project or contract. Failure to obtain/maintain required certifications will result in disqualification and could result in termination.

- For office environments, grooming and dress are typically business casual but are dependent on the client’s standards.
- For field environments, grooming and dress must not pose a safety hazard to yourself or employees working in the same general area. Employees must adhere to OSHA standards.
- May require a U.S. government security clearance. Dual citizenship may necessitate relinquishing foreign citizenship to obtain clearance.
