Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician – BFE – Underwood, ND
Job Summary:
Perform preventative, predictive, routine and emergency maintenance on the plant electrical equipment, instrumentation, valves, communication and control systems in a timely manner to ensure safe, efficient and reliable plant operation. Assists with mechanical maintenance repairs on related process plant equipment to maintain overall plant reliability which includes operating all hand and power tools and other equipment required to perform mechanical maintenance duties.
Major Responsibilities:
- Perform predictive, preventative, proactive, and reactive maintenance on a variety of electrical equipment, communication equipment, HVAC equipment, pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, and system controls in accordance with company policies and procedures to ensure equipment and instrument availability
- Monitor and control process variables such as: flows, temperatures, pressures, vacuum, time, motor speed, and chemicals by automatic regulation and remote control of processing units such as: heaters, coolers, thermal oxidizer, compressors, exchangers and other units
- Responsible for programming support, troubleshooting and the repair of the Distributed Control System (DCS)
- Maintain calibration records, instruction manuals, schematic diagrams, and system documentation through the use of personal computer, the Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) system and written communications to aid trouble shooting and maintenance efforts
- Collect and record equipment data to maintain equipment history; enter and close work orders and take ownership of the backlog of assigned work orders
- Recommend, implement and monitor equipment and software design modifications to improve safety, plant reliability and efficiency. Recommend revisions to the predictive and preventative maintenance programs that will improve the program and/or extend the life of the plant equipment
- Communicate maintenance issues to operations and recommend necessary changes to process equipment operation. Maintain strong awareness of plant operational concerns through operations daily logs and communication with operations. Follow-up on identified operational deficiencies
- Participate in maintenance meetings to review plant issues, prioritize and schedule maintenance activities. Perform mechanical maintenance duties and preventative maintenance tasks as needed
- Maintain testing and calibration equipment and an organized and clean work area both in the field and in the shop. Assume accountability for test equipment, personal issue hand tools and company tools to ensure safe, efficient working conditions and tools
- Required to perform various mechanical maintenance tasks and repairs on process plant equipment.
- Promote and ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedures, laws and regulations and company’s safety program, report all unsafe acts or conditions that may cause injury to plant personnel or damage equipment and report and investigate accidents
- Assists in emergency response activities and drills to the degree of training provided; including fire response, chemical release, spill response, first aid, and other environmental or emergency actions as required
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret Piping &Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), instruction manuals, electrical diagrams, drawings and parts manuals.
- Knowledge of plant systems, processes, tools and equipment
- Ability to comply with health, safety, environmental laws and regulations and company safety programs
- Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form to small groups and in a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) program.
- Basic skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to analyze, research, organize and interpret data; possess attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize time/workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to create a team environment and create an environment of open dialog and continuous improvement with employees.
- Ability to apply mathematical, statistical, and scientific concepts to practical situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of vocational/technical training in the various phases of electric, electronic, or instrumentation and controls. An Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation & Controls can be substituted for the two years of experience.
- Must live within one-hour drive time of the plant location
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at a production, process, power, or manufacturing facility preferred.

- Starting Salary: $35.43/hr, depending on experience
