Job summary

Midwest Technical Institute in Ridgeland, MS is seeking an Electrical Instructor to lead electrical theory and hands-on lab instruction for students pursuing electrical technology certifications. The role requires a strong background in electrical systems, safety standards, and the ability to advise students on course selection and career opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the electrical industry or as an electrical technician.
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience preferred.
  • Technical Experience – in depth knowledge of electrical systems, components and installation methods. Familiarity with electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Communication Skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty and staff.
  • Instructional Skills – ability to teach complex electrical concepts clearly and effectively, using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Problem‑Solving – strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and guide students through electrical issues in both classroom and practical settings.
  • Organization – Ability to manage time effectively, plan courses, and maintain accurate records for student assessment and progress.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction in electrical theory and hands-on lab courses.
  • Deliver lecture-based and practical courses to students in the electrical technology program.
  • Assist in developing and improving the electrical curriculum to align with industry standards.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance through assignments, projects, quizzes and exams, with constructive feedback.
  • Offer academic advising and career guidance to students, helping them select courses and understand industry opportunities.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed in classroom and laboratory activities.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current with electrical systems and instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with instructors and staff to support a productive learning environment and program reviews.
  • Support job readiness activities, including resume building and interview preparation, and assist with job placement efforts.
