This is technical inspection work performed on residential and multi-family dwelling units for the Building Division at an entry level.
Generally, the hiring range is $55,364-$69,205 annually.Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Although charged with enforcing compliance with the Douglas County adopted Codes and regulations, the incumbent must do so in accordance with the County’s policy that emphasizes obtaining compliance over punitive enforcement, using the latter as a last resort. Therefore, the incumbent must use all his/her knowledge, tact, resources and ingenuity to coach, educate and assist customers to achieve compliance with applicable County codes, resolutions, policies, and statutory regulations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not directly supervise other employees.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR: Work requires general knowledge of construction materials and procedures. Consequence of error may threaten the health and safety of building occupants. Error may also result in construction delays or unnecessary financial hardship for the owner/builder.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves independent judgement within given guidelines.Work involves frequent interpretation of the electrical code as it relates to complicated design and construction issues that are often not clearly addressed in the code.
CONTACTS: This position has daily contact with co-workers, builders, electrical contractors, other County employees, and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, understand and apply electrical codes. Must be familiar with blueprints, and possess the ability to communicate both written and verbally in a clear, concise and professional manner.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Able to apply logical thought process to define and resolve conflicts or problems.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to tactfully negotiate difficult situations to achieve resolution. Good ‘people skills’ are essential for this position. Basic computer skills are required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and be able to frequently navigate stairs and ladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed outside in weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, hazardous conditions, and possible risk of electrical shock

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
