Austal USA in Mobile, AL seeks an experienced Electrical Manager to supervise vessel electrical work, drive production schedules, and ensure safety and QA compliance on ships under construction.
Ideal candidates have 5+ years in marine electrical leadership, strong planning skills, and ability to mentor staff while delivering on time and within budget.
Responsible for the implementation of all production schedules, monitoring and maintenance of schedules in conjunction with Supervisors.
Oversees electrical installation on vessels under construction.
Responsible for the preparation of material take-offs.
Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of adequate stock levels.
Ensuring correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with Austal Quality Assurance Standards and Class/ Flag requirements.
Responsible for sourcing and distributing information and direction to Supervisors and outside contractors.
Accountable for monitoring resource levels and the distribution of these resources.
Assisting with maintaining safe working practices and good housekeeping in all areas and ensuring Austal's Safety Policies and regulations are followed.
Accountable for ensuring that all supervisors under their control are complying to the ten fundamental rules of supervision.
Provide input on a weekly basis at production meetings regarding:
Ensure all timesheets are processed and allocated daily.
Ensure that company policies and procedures are understood and followed, particularly in relation to:
Provide motivation, maintain morale and minimize confrontation.
Review and recommend on pay rates in conjunction with supervisors.
Maintain succession plan. Identify key personnel and implement training programs.
Input and maintain cost savings, weight savings, and production improvements.
High School Diploma/GED Required
At least 5 years electrical experience in marine or manufacturing industry required
Display a good working knowledge of planning and monitoring.
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent people management skills
Demonstrate previous supervisory skills
Ability to effectively communicate with other departments and within own department
Demonstrates sound knowledge of Class/ Flag requirements
Able to prioritize workload and effectively control various projects under construction concurrently
Ability to plan to a set schedule and budget, make decisions, problem solve, work to deadlines, and control a substantial workforce
Extensive experience in Marine AC and DC system, control and automation.
Experience in troubleshooting, testing and commissioning AC and DC systems.
Authority to assign work to employees
Discretionary authority to correct, discipline and recommend pay increases
Liaise with other trade Managers, Coordinators, Supervisors and any outside contract firms as required.
