Electrical Foreman - Grade 107 | Classified Scale
Qualifications
  • Valid Electrical Contractors NC License (required)
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Five years successful experience as an electrician preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Supervises: Electrical Technician and Assistant
Job Goal: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of lighting fixtures, electrical distribution systems, wiring, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, generators, and all electrical elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district.
  • Determines which repair jobs may be performed by electricians, custodians, and maintenance workers on the staff and which must be performed by outside contracts, and advises the maintenance supervisor accordingly.
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provides access for future maintenance, and avoids unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, insuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuit to insure electrical capability and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
  • Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and appropriate test equipment.
  • Disassembles and diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.
  • Sends electric motor bearings to a motor company to be repaired or replaced, and sends motors to be rewired.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical components of machines and equipment.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of electricians engaged in maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, security, and communication systems of buildings.
  • Plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures, such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes, according to blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Estimates costs of electrical repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.
  • Follows the National Electric Code and complies with state and local building codes when installing systems.
  • Responds to emergencies as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
