Job summary

The New York City Department of Buildings seeks an Electrical Engineer to work on the NYC Electrical Code, NYC Building Code, and related standards. You will research complex issues, draft revisions, and assist inspectors and plan examiners in applying codes.

You will present findings to agency staff and the public, participate in code development meetings, and develop training materials for technical staff. Remote work up to two days weekly may be available.

Qualifications

  • Four years of full-time electrical engineering experience.
  • New York State Professional Engineer license required; active and maintained.
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering may substitute one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Research complex technical issues and respond to inquiries about fire alarm systems, NYC Electrical Code, and Building Code.
  • Review proposed changes to NYC Electrical Code and NYC Building Code.
  • Assist with drafting revisions to NYC Electrical Code and NYC Building Code.
  • Prepare responses for electrical special permissions and related determinations.
  • Attend meetings with industry stakeholders and city agencies on code development.
  • Provide technical training to inspectors and plan examiners.
  • Develop and present materials for agency staff and the public.
