Job summary

The City of New York Department of Buildings seeks an Electrical and Fire Protection Engineer to work on NYC Electrical Code, Existing Building Code and Construction Code issues. You will collaborate with executive staff and contribute to code revisions, prepare presentations, and provide technical training for inspectors and plan examiners.

Minimum qualifications include four years of electrical engineering experience and a New York State PE license; strong writing and communication skills are

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of full-time electrical engineering experience.
  • Valid New York State Professional Engineer license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to draft clear technical issues and write detailed responses.

Responsibilities

  • Research complex technical issues and respond to inquiries regarding fire alarm systems and electrical/building codes.
  • Review proposed changes to NYC Electrical Code, Building Code, and reference standards.
  • Assist in drafting revisions to NYC Electrical Code and Building Code and participate in code revision process.
  • Prepare detailed responses for electrical CCDs and related matters; present findings to stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings with industry, city agencies, and officials regarding code development.
  • Provide technical assistance to industry members and explain design standards.
