Job summary

City of New York's Department of Buildings seeks an Inspector (Elevators) to supervise elevator inspections, review signoffs, and coordinate with architects, engineers and manufacturers to ensure compliance with NYC Construction Codes and related rules.

The role involves field inspections, incident investigations, staff training, and preparing reports while maintaining QA compliance. Remote work up to two days per week is available under the program; residency not required.

Qualifications

  • Five years of full-time experience in elevator assembly, installation, repair, or design; or as an elevator inspector.
  • Three years of experience plus two years of formal training in elevators.
  • Three years experience and 60 credits toward a related degree.
  • Completion of a three-year apprentice program in elevator trade or equivalent.
  • License as a professional engineer or registered architect is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating activities within the Elevators Inspections unit.
  • Monitor DOB NOW inspections, complaints, tests, and QA inspections.
  • Review signoffs and reports in DOB BUILD.
  • Communicate with architects, engineers, and manufacturers on codes.
