Job summary

Flatiron Crane is seeking an Electrical Field Technician to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain overhead crane systems at customer facilities. You will diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure safe, reliable operation in heavy industrial environments.

This role requires 3+ years in industrial maintenance, ability to read blueprints, and travel including overnight trips.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, crane service, or related field.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and/or electrical equipment; welding is a plus.
  • Experience as a crane technician, millwright, ironworker, or industrial electrician preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with good problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete electronic service reports.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel, including overnight trips.

Position Description

Job Summary:

The Electrical Field Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining overhead crane systems and related equipment at customer facilities. Working independently or as part of a team, this role diagnoses electrical and mechanical issues, performs repairs and preventative maintenance, conducts OSHA-compliant safety inspections, and ensures equipment operates safely and reliably.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Electrical troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and modifying overhead crane systems.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment at customer owned facilities such as steel mills, auto manufacturing plants, foundries, large machine builders and steel processing facilities.
  • Work independently, or as part of a crew, to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems with equipment in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Identify needed parts, repair procedures, communicate with the customer, interface with our engineering department, and perform the repair.
  • Responsible for documentation of hours, services performed, writing service acknowledgements, and working with computers.
  • You will be trained to perform your duties in compliance with NFPA 70E Arc Flash Protection Requirements.
  • Motor control experience on systems with AC or DC power is necessary.
  • You will be trained to perform documented safety inspections on specific types of equipment in keeping with OSHA guidelines.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance, manufacturing, construction, crane service, or related field; equivalent military experience will be considered.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and/or electrical equipment; welding experience is preferred for applicable positions.
  • Experience as a crane technician, millwright, ironworker, industrial electrician, maintenance technician, or similar trade is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and the ability to complete electronic service reports and documentation.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards and is eligible for coverage under the company vehicle insurance policy.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including overnight travel, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency service calls, when needed.
  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in indoor and outdoor industrial environments under varying weather and operating conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting performed using appropriate equipment or team assistance.
  • Commitment to working safely and following OSHA, ANSI, ASME, CMAA, NFPA, and all applicable company safety policies and procedures.
