Job summary

Shermco Industries is seeking a Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and repair on distribution systems and equipment at customer sites. The role involves travel and data collection for LV to HV equipment with a focus on safety and quality.

The candidate will work with a team to ensure tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting are completed promptly, with on-call duties and flexible hours as required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• Prefer an Associate's degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• Must have at least 2 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training on each can be provided by Shermco.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of electrical systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid state relays.
• Perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and test LV/MV switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Calibrate relays and meters as required; support on-call emergencies as needed.
