Job summary

Five Star Electric, a Tutor Perini Company, seeks an Electrical Estimator for our corporate office in Ozone Park, NY. This role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial, institutional, and public works electrical projects.

The estimator will review drawings, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit pricing, and develop proposals, collaborating with project managers and suppliers to ensure bids are competitive. NYC-area familiarity and proficiency with estimating software are a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of electrical estimating experience with an electrical contractor.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred. HS Diploma/equivalent required.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents.
• Perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs for power, lighting, fire alarm, communications, and low-voltage systems.
• Develop labor, material, and equipment cost estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare bid summaries and proposal documentation.
• Analyze project risks, scope gaps, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
• Assist with preparing bid packages for public and private sector projects.
• Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and vendor relationships.
• Coordinate with operations and project management teams to develop competitive pricing strategies.
• Support project turnover activities following contract award.
