Job summary

Ables, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical projects.

You will review plans, specifications, and proposals to determine scope, materials, labor, and equipment, collaborating with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure cost-effective estimates aligned with company standards. You will collect data, analyze drawings, and prepare time and cost estimates, while tracking bids

Qualifications

  • Strong electrical estimating skills, including quantity take-offs, bid preparation, and pricing analysis.
  • Experience with cost control and budget monitoring in construction or electrical contracting environments.
  • Knowledge of electrical contracting practices and project delivery in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  • Solid understanding of electricity principles and practical application in building systems.
  • Background in electrical engineering or related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • High school diploma required; associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or trade/technical certification in a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data to estimate costs for current and future projects.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, project managers, foreman and general contractors to discuss formulate estimates and issues found in the bidding process.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for the purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, costs, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with project manager on all change orders, ASI’s, bulletins etc., for pricing on all ongoing projects.
  • Confer with project manager on small project pricing.
  • Track all projects bid and prepare weekly reports for management.

Role Description

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial work. This role involves reviewing project plans, specifications, and proposals to determine the scope of work, materials, labor, and equipment needed. The Electrical Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure estimates are complete, cost-effective, and aligned with company standards. Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of electrical systems, codes, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Collect data to estimate costs for current and future projects.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, project managers, foreman and general contractors to discuss formulate estimates and issues found in the bidding process.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for the purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, costs, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with project manager on all change orders, ASI’s, bulletins etc., for pricing on all ongoing projects.
  • Confer with project manager on small project pricing.
  • Track all projects bid and prepare weekly reports for management.
Bidding Functions:
  • Attend Prebid’s as needed
  • Send out RFQ’s to suppliers
  • Review quotes from suppliers
  • Update all pricing as needed in the estimating program
  • Finalize bid and preparing paperwork for review with management
  • Type proposal and send out to general contractors
  • Follow up with bids
Pre-Construction Functions:
  • Job setup
  • AIA schedule of values
  • Award of packages
  • Assist with material purchases
  • Project turnover meeting
Construction Functions:
  • Price ASI’s and/or bulletins
Post Construction Functions:
  • Post construction meeting
