Job summary

Haydon Healy seeks an experienced Electrical Estimator - Transmission Line to support estimating and preconstruction efforts for electric transmission line projects. The role focuses on developing accurate, competitive estimates and contributing to pursuit strategy.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of transmission line construction, cost estimating, quantity takeoffs, labor and equipment productivity, material pricing, subcontractor procurement, and project risk.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5+ years of progressive construction estimating experience with electric transmission, utility, power delivery, EPC, or heavy civil projects.
• Demonstrated experience developing estimates for complex construction projects from conceptual or early design through bid submission.
• Strong understanding of transmission line construction methods, materials, labor requirements, and equipment.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor/vendor pricing, labor productivity, and cost analysis.
• Ability to independently review plans, specifications, and bid documents and translate project scope into a complete estimate.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for electric transmission line and related utility infrastructure projects.
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, bid documents, and contract requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and other project requirements.
• Transmission structures and foundations
• Conductors, shield wire, and OPGW
• Insulators, hardware, and grounding
• Access roads and site preparation
• Clearing and environmental requirements
• Civil and foundation work
• Material handling and transportation
• Construction labor and equipment
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Develop labor, crew, productivity, equipment, and material pricing assumptions.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks, allowances, and contingencies.
• Analyze project schedules and construction methods to ensure estimates reflect realistic execution requirements.
• Participate in estimate reviews, bid strategy meetings, and pricing discussions.
• Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, project management, operations, and business development teams.
• Support value engineering and identify opportunities to improve project competitiveness.
• Maintain historical cost data and contribute to estimating databases and benchmarking.
• Prepare clear and well-supported estimate documentation for management review and client submission.
• Assist with project handoff from estimating/preconstruction to project execution.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and other project team members as appropriate.
