Job summary

JB Electrical in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator for full-time on-site work. You will review plans, quantify materials, labor and equipment, and prepare competitive cost proposals for commercial, light industrial and service projects.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers and field teams, track market pricing and vendor quotes, and help drive cost control while updating estimates as designs evolve.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-4 years of electrical estimating experience preferred.
• Strong electrical estimating skills including quantity take-offs, bid preparation, and budget development.
• Knowledge of Electrical contracting practices, project delivery methods and contractor coordination.
• Foundational electrical engineering knowledge for interpreting drawings, specs and standards.
• Experience with estimating software, spreadsheets, and blueprint-reading tools; numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration on-site with project teams and stakeholders.

We are an established electrical contracting company in Southeastern Michigan looking to add an experienced Electrical Estimator to our team. We are seeking someone who understands electrical construction, can read plans and specifications, and can prepare accurate competitive estimates for commercial, light industrial, and service projects.

Role Description

This full-time, on-site Electrical Estimator role at JB Electrical in Sterling Heights, MI is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, industrial, and residential electrical projects. The Electrical Estimator reviews project plans, specifications, and scopes of work to quantify materials, labor, and equipment needs, and develops detailed cost proposals and bids. The role involves collaborating with project managers, engineers, and field teams to clarify requirements, assess constructability, and update estimates as designs evolve. The Electrical Estimator tracks market pricing, vendor quotes, and historical cost data to maintain up-to-date estimating tools and support cost control throughout the project lifecycle. Additional responsibilities may include attending pre-bid meetings, supporting contract negotiations, and contributing to value-engineering recommendations.

• Candidates should possess Cost Control skills related to budgeting, cost tracking, and financial analysis of electrical projects.
• Candidates should possess knowledge of Electrical Contracting practices, including project delivery methods and contractor coordination.
• Candidates should possess a solid understanding of Electricity principles and basic power distribution concepts.
• Candidates should possess foundational Electrical Engineering knowledge relevant to interpreting drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
• Relevant experience in construction or electrical contracting, preferably in an estimating or project support capacity.
• Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and blueprint-reading tools; strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on-site with project teams and stakeholders.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field is beneficial; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• Ability to prioritize multiple bids and deadlines, maintain organized documentation, and uphold safety and ethical standards.
