Job summary

Critical Peake Services is seeking a Design-Build Estimator to accurately estimate electrical construction projects in Maryland. You will review design plans, analyze specifications, obtain quotes, and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.

The role emphasizes strong analytical and math skills, attention to detail, and collaboration with architects, engineers, and project managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade certifications may be preferred.
• Proven experience as an estimator.
• Hands-on experience across estimator duties.
• Electrical estimator–Journeyman Electrician background is a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain credentials.

Responsibilities

• Review design plans, specifications and contract documents to identify project requirements.
• Analyze specifications and collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction managers to identify cost savings.
• Obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors and vendors for materials, equipment, and labor.
• Prepare cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and site conditions.
• Use specialized software or spreadsheets to create detailed cost breakdowns and forecasts.
• Review and analyze bids to ensure competitive pricing.
• Maintain and update project cost tracking spreadsheets and databases.
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to communicate cost requirements and updates.
• Stay updated on industry trends and installation methods.
• Ideally bring in electrical business and refer electricians to join the team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Design-Build Estimator

Purpose

Design-build estimators play a crucial role in the construction process by accurately estimating the cost of construction projects. They work closely with architects, engineers, and construction managers to gather the necessary data and develop comprehensive cost estimates for various project types. As a design-build estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing the design plans, analyzing project specifications, and determining the materials, labor, and equipment required for successful execution. This role requires strong analytical and math skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Review design plans, specifications, and contract documents to accurately identify project requirements.
• Analyze project specifications and collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction managers to identify potential cost savings and recommend appropriate alternatives.
• Obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors for materials, equipment, and labor.
• Prepare cost estimates for the entire project, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.
• Conduct site visits to gather necessary data, such as measurements, quantities, and site conditions, including potential challenges and required infrastructure upgrades.
• Use specialized software or spreadsheets to create detailed cost breakdowns and cost forecasts.
• Review and analyze bids and proposals from subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
• Maintain and update project cost tracking spreadsheets and databases.
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to communicate project cost requirements and updates.
• Stay updated on industry trends, including emerging electrical technologies, materials, and installation methods.
• Ideally, Estimator will bring a book of Electrical business from trusted customers and will refer qualified electricians to join our ever growing Team or Professional Electricians.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses & Work Experience

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. However, additional certifications or education specific to the trade or profession may be preferred.
• Experience: Proven experience working as an estimator
• This experience should include hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of the work.
• Skills and Abilities: The Electrical Estimator - Journeyman Electrician should possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. They should also have a solid understanding of safety protocols and be physically fit to perform physically demanding tasks.
• Certifications: Certifications or licenses specific to the trade or profession may be required. Electrical Estimator - Journeyman Electrician should be able to obtain and maintain any necessary credentials.
• The Electrical Estimator - Journeyman Electrician position offers opportunities for advancement within the trade or profession. With additional experience, skills, and certifications, individuals may progress to higher level positions such as foreman, supervisor, or project manager. They may also consider pursuing further education or training to further expand their skills and knowledge.
