Job Overview
The Electrical Estimator reports to the Team Leader / Sponsor and is responsible for accurately estimating labor, material, sub-contractor, and machinery costs related to electrical construction projects. These projects range from residential and commercial to industrial applications, including low-voltage and fire-alarm systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide accurate estimates of costs and quantities of materials, machinery, buyouts, and labor for electrical construction projects.
- Review bid proposal documents such as project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and estimate requirements.
- Prepare estimates for management to aid in planning, organizing, and scheduling.
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Participate in bid presentations and submit qualification information to clients.
- Provide project-specific conceptual and budgetary information.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Analyze electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural, landscape, and civil drawings.
- Perform project takeoffs, including completing standard estimating forms and inputting project data.
- Estimate and budget for factors that could increase costs, such as delays, weather, and waste.
- Participate in pre-bid site inspections and job walks.
- Accurately input data into computer systems, check for errors, and submit bids.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Represent the company professionally to clients, vendors, and external institutions.
- Maintain confidentiality of company information.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of electrical theory, engineering concepts, estimating, and negotiation.
- Understanding of NEC, FLS, and FAC regulations.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control principles.
- Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, and Estimating software like Accubid.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to follow procedures and participate in meetings.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and accountability.
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering/construction management and/or five years of electrical estimating experience.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime as needed.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. for plan rolls.
