Job summary

Responsibilities

• Review project specs, drawings, schedules, bid documents and other technical information.
• Perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs for materials, equipment, and activities.
• Develop estimates for medium-voltage electrical systems and related infrastructure.
• Determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor and production requirements to complete costs.
• Identify scope gaps and risks, and prepare pre-bid questions and clarifications.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop RFQ packages and communicate scope to vendors.
• Analyze vendor proposals for scope and cost and prepare bid comparisons.
• Collaborate with estimating and project teams on schedules and resources.
• Maintain knowledge of electrical pricing, market trends and production rates.
• Update historical estimating data and cost information.
• Assist with procurement planning, purchase orders and subcontract scope.
• Participate in occasional site visits to gather information.

Job description

Location: American Canyon, CA | Full-Time | On-Site

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join a growing construction organization in Napa County, California. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with strong medium-voltage electrical construction experience who enjoys working on complex, technically challenging projects.

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates from initial document review through final bid submission. This individual will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and other estimators to evaluate scope, pricing, labor requirements, constructability, and project risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze project specifications, drawings, schedules, bid documents, and other technical information.
• Perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs for materials, equipment, and associated construction activities.
• Develop comprehensive estimates for medium-voltage electrical systems and related infrastructure.
• Determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and production requirements to develop complete project costs.
• Identify scope gaps, technical concerns, and constructability issues and prepare pre-bid questions and clarifications.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop RFQ packages and clearly communicate project scope and requirements to potential vendors.
• Analyze vendor and subcontractor proposals for scope completeness and prepare detailed bid comparisons.
• Partner with the broader estimating and project teams to develop schedules, sequencing, and resource requirements.
• Maintain current knowledge of electrical material pricing, commodity trends, production rates, and market conditions.
• Maintain and update historical estimating and production-cost information.
• Assist with procurement planning, purchase orders, and subcontract scope development.
• Participate in occasional project site visits as needed to gather information and validate estimating assumptions.
• Support multiple estimates and priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting bid deadlines.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in electrical construction estimating, with strong knowledge of medium-voltage electrical systems, components, materials, and installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings, specifications, technical diagrams, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction means, methods, labor productivity, and material requirements.
• Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and regulations.
• Experience estimating projects involving electrical distribution, medium-voltage systems, utilities, or related infrastructure highly desirable.
• Experience with government, federal, military, or public-sector construction projects is a plus.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Ability to identify potential project risks, scope gaps, and cost impacts during the estimating process.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with estimating and takeoff software; HCSS and Bluebeam preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Two- or four-year construction-related degree preferred; equivalent technical training and relevant construction experience will also be considered.
