Position Overview

A well-established infrastructure and engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join its estimating team in Napa County, California. This position will support complex electrical and infrastructure construction projects with a particular emphasis on medium-voltage electrical systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on electrical estimating experience and a strong understanding of electrical construction means and methods, material and equipment requirements, labor productivity, takeoffs, vendor pricing and project specifications. Experience with government, federal, military or other highly regulated construction environments is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for medium-voltage electrical and infrastructure construction projects.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, schedules and contract documents to fully understand project requirements and identify potential risks or scope gaps.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical materials, equipment and associated construction activities.
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor and production-cost estimates.
  • Review electrical drawings and specifications for constructability issues, discrepancies and areas requiring pre-bid clarification.
  • Prepare and submit RFIs and pre-bid questions when project documents require clarification.
  • Solicit pricing from electrical equipment suppliers, subcontractors and specialty vendors.
  • Analyze and level vendor and subcontractor proposals to ensure complete scope coverage and accurate comparisons.
  • Develop estimates involving electrical distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, underground electrical infrastructure and related medium-voltage components.
  • Work closely with the broader estimating and operations teams to develop project schedules, resource requirements and construction strategies.
  • Evaluate labor productivity and production rates and maintain current historical estimating data.
  • Monitor material, equipment and commodity pricing to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
  • Assist vendors and subcontractors with scope clarification, quantity information and project-document updates throughout the bidding process.
  • Participate in occasional pre-bid meetings and site visits.
  • Maintain detailed documentation supporting assumptions, exclusions, clarifications and pricing incorporated into each estimate.
  • Manage multiple estimates and bid deadlines simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in electrical construction estimating, preferably involving medium-voltage or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical construction systems, components and installation methods.
  • Experience with medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, underground electrical, conduit/duct-bank systems, generators or related power infrastructure is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, technical specifications, construction documents and project schedules.
  • Strong understanding of electrical labor requirements, production rates, material quantities and equipment costs.
  • Experience performing detailed electrical takeoffs and developing complete project estimates.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify scope gaps, constructability concerns and potential cost exposure during the estimating process.
  • Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors and evaluating competing proposals.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience with government or federal construction specifications is a plus.
  • Experience with estimating and takeoff software; HCSS and Bluebeam experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Background

Candidates coming from electrical infrastructure, utility, heavy civil, industrial, power-generation or federal construction environments are particularly relevant. Experience estimating work for government agencies, military facilities or other technically complex infrastructure projects is a plus but is not required for candidates with strong medium-voltage estimating experience.
