Estimator

We are seeking a talented and skilled estimator to join our growing and highly motivated team of professionals. In this position, you will be responsible for surveying projects, estimating labor and materials costs, and communicating financial costs and project timelines to customers. You must have a keen attention to detail and skills at estimating projects from a bird's-eye view to set our client's expectations accurately.

You should have a minimum of two years of experience working in a construction environment as well as a bachelor's degree in mathematics. Critical thinking and mathematical prowess are essential skills, as our estimator will need to calculate various costs. Familiarity with submitting bids to local, state, and federal entities is also required.

Estimator Duties and Responsibilities

• Fulfill client appointments in a timely manner.
• Assess projects by identifying project requirements, regarding time, labor, and material costs.
• Read blueprints and analyze all applicable documents to prepare estimates.
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and architects during estimate creation to ensure accuracy.
• Act as the final authority in the calculation, analysis, and adjustment of estimates.
• Present estimates to clients in a timely and professional manner.
• Recommend cost-reduction options.
• Assist sales team in final project preparation transactions.
• Maintain thorough records of all project documentation, including estimates, receipts, and completion documentation.
• Attend pre-construction meetings.
• Manage Requests for Information (RFI), Change Orders, Submittals, and billing logs.
• Review project specifications, drawings, and documents to establish project intent.
• Identify time-sensitive installation needs.
• Track resources and project progress.
• Document project events impacting schedule, scope, and efficiency.
• Conduct post-project reviews to identify areas for improvement.
• Follow up on estimates, submittals, and negotiate change orders.
• Provide solutions to increase project profitability.
• Develop key relationships with supply chain partners and clients.

Estimator Requirements and Qualifications

• Previous experience as an estimator or electrical engineer performing estimation roles with established contractors.
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in mathematics.
• Field experience as an apprentice or journeyman electrician.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Effective time management skills.
• Familiarity with bid software such as Trimble or equivalent.
• Experience submitting bids to local, state, and federal entities.
• Knowledge of federal wage scale project submittals.
• Working knowledge of the electrical code NFPA 70.
