At A-C Electric Company, we’re looking for an Electrical Estimators who can help turn construction documents, project requirements, and market information into accurate, competitive estimates for electrical construction projects. Depending on your experience and demonstrated estimating capability, you may build foundational skills while supporting experienced estimators or take increasing ownership of estimates, bid reviews, valueengineering, pricing analysis, and project coordination. If you bring a strong attention to detail and are ready to develop or deepen your electrical estimating expertise, this role offers the opportunity to contribute at a level that matches your capabilities while continuing to grow your estimating judgment.
What You’ll Do
As an Electrical Estimator, your key responsibilities will be:
- Developing electrical construction estimates by reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, determining material and labor requirements, and using estimating tools to develop accurate estimate information. Your level of ownership will increase based on your demonstrated estimating capability and experience.
- Coordinating vendor and subcontractor pricing by identifying appropriate sources, issuing requests for quotation (RFQs), tracking responses, organizing pricing information, and maintaining productive working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
- Preparing bids for review and decision-making by developing estimate information, scope documentation, pricing, and other bid tools; participating in bid reviews; and, at more advanced levels, leading assigned bid reviews and presenting estimating assumptions and recommendations.
- Evaluating project scope and estimating opportunities by comparing takeoffs with drawings and specifications, identifying scope or pricing questions, and contributing to project-scoping and value-engineering discussions. More experienced Estimators may evaluate labor complexity, contingency considerations, and quantified value-engineering alternatives.
- Coordinating estimating work throughout the pursuit and hand off process by collaborating with the estimating team and Operations, and, as appropriate to your level and assignment, participating in pre-bid meetings, site visits, proposal activities, client coordination, and hand off of successful estimates.
Additional duties will include:
- Developing and maintaining bid documentation by preparing or contributing to scope letters, bid tools, RFQs, pricing information, and other documentation required for assigned estimates.
- Maintaining estimating quality by checking work against drawings, specifications, scope requirements, and Company standards and resolving or escalating discrepancies before estimates advance through review.
- Using estimating technology effectively to organize quantities, labor, pricing, scope, and other information throughout the estimating process.
What You Bring
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional education, training, electrical field experience, or other relevant construction experience that provides a foundation for performing and developing electrical estimating work.
- The ability to interpret construction documents, such as drawings, specifications, quantities, project scope, and other information used to prepare electrical construction estimates.
- The ability to work carefully with quantities, pricing, drawings, specifications, and bid documentation while maintaining accuracy and completeness.
- The ability to meet deadlines, follow through on assigned work, ask questions when needed, and communicate professionally to team members, vendors, subcontractors, and supervisors.
What Will Help You Stand Out
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Electrical construction experience through field experience, apprenticeship, education, or related industry experience.
- Previous electrical or construction estimating experience, particularly experience taking complete estimates from quantity takeoff through pricing and review.
- Experience using estimating software, spreadsheets, or other tools used to organize quantities, pricing, and project information.
- Experience with bid reviews, project scoping, value engineering, pre-bid activities, client coordination, proposal presentation, and hand off from estimating to Operations.
What Success Looks Like
- Delivering accurate, well-supported work, with quantities, pricing, scope information, and documentation developed carefully and completed on-time.
- Operating with a level of independence appropriate to your experience, seeking guidance when needed while demonstrating increasing ownership and judgment as your capabilities grow.
- Identifying and communicating estimating issues early, recognizing discrepancies, scope questions, pricing considerations, and other matters that require resolution or additional review.
- Contributing effectively throughout the bid process, working reliably with estimators, Operations, vendors, subcontractors, clients, and other project stakeholders according to your responsibilities.
- Continuing to develop your estimating capability, with demonstrated growth in construction knowledge, estimating technology, cost analysis, bid judgment, and ownership in increasingly complete estimating assignments.
