We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Electrical Estimator to join our team. This position demands a deep understanding of power generation. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical project estimates, ensuring all aspects of electrical systems are thoroughly evaluated. Your expertise will help drive successful project bids, support cost control initiatives, and contribute to overall project profitability.
Duties
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop comprehensive electrical estimates and detailed cost proposals
- Analyze electrical design drawings and technical documents, ensuring compliance with NEC standards
- Prepare detailed bid packages including material quantities, labor costs, equipment needs, and subcontractor quotes
- Mitigate financial risk through advanced risk assessments identifying potential cost overruns, savings opportunities, and alternative solutions, resolving discrepancies in project documentation, and recommending optimizations that do not compromise safety, quality, regulatory compliance, or operational performance
- Continuously monitor and update estimates throughout the project lifecycle, tracking progress against baselines, adjusting for scope changes and change orders, and providing real-time cost analysis and forecasting during preconstruction and active construction
- Perform high-level takeoffs and negotiate with vendors and subcontractors for competitive quotes
- Collaborate with project managers and clients during negotiations to refine scope and pricing strategies
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of electrical estimating principles specific to electrical systems
- Proficiency reading electrical drawings, specifications, and submittals
- Solid understanding of NEC standards and electrical codes applicable to electrical construction
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts accurately
- Construction site experience coupled with a background in electrical work or management
- Effective project management skills with emphasis on cost control and scheduling
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of electrical estimating experience, or 5+ years with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, focused on large industrial complex projects
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the design and layout of electrical systems with the ability to estimate multiple projects concurrently
- Proven track record estimating large scale power projects valued at $1M or more with demonstrated success in competitive bidding and cost control
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check
