SpaceWorks Enterprises in Atlanta, GA is seeking college student interns for Spring 2027 (Jan–Apr) to support several engineering teams. This is a seasonal, full-time, onsite internship with a focus on avionics and aerospace hardware.

Qualifications

  • College student pursuing a BS/MS/PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Hands-on circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout and verification testing (Altium preferred).
  • Leadership or involvement in campus organizations and strong GPA.
  • Available 40 hours per week for Spring 2027 (Jan–Apr).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux; familiar with basic version control.
  • Engineering fundamentals, hand sizing, and ability to interpret drawings.
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB is advantageous.
  • Must work in-person in Atlanta, GA; US citizen eligible for DoD clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual design of avionics subsystems for spacecraft and aircraft.
  • Developing PCBs, wiring harnesses, power systems, and avionics assemblies.
  • Design and analyze analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for subsystems.
  • Collaborate with avionics team and sponsors to develop technologies.

INTERN @ SPACEWORKS

Are you passionate about aerospace? Do you go above and beyond to solve difficult challenges?

SpaceWorks is seeking college student interns for the Spring 2027 (January - April, dates flexible) to support several of our functional engineering teams. We are seeking students with experience and interest in various areas of aerospace engineering.

Interns will work within a small team of engineers on the design, development, testing, and evaluation future spacecraft, small satellites, reentry capsules, and hypersonic flight systems. We are passionate about what we do and we’re looking for someone with a keen interest in high-speed flight, aircraft, rockets, small satellites, and/or space exploration. We work with sponsors at the Department of War, NASA, and other organizations, partnering to develop a range of advanced technologies. Given the nature of our work, US Person status is required. The position is located 100% onsite at our Atlanta, GA office and is a seasonal, full-time (hourly) position.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Avionics Team (electronics in aviation):
  • Conceptual design of avionics subsystems for advanced concept spacecraft and aircraft, including power system sizing, component selection, and design trade studies
  • Developing printed circuit boards, wiring harnesses, power systems, and avionics assemblies, starting with conceptualization and requirements definition, and moving to design, prototyping, verification, and release to production
  • Designing and analyzing analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for power, command and control, communication, and propulsion subsystems
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • College student pursuing a degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Direct hands-on experience with circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout, and verification testing (Altium preferred)
  • Involvement / leadership in organizations on campus, passion projects in the backyard, and strong GPA
  • Available 40 hours per week for Spring 2027 (January - April)
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio
  • Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with the basic principles of version control systems
  • Engineering Fundamentals: Applies first-principles to simplify systems and perform rough sizing using hand calculations
  • Technical Documentation: Able to create and interpret engineering drawings and contribute to technical reports
  • Familiarity with modeling in languages such as Python and/or MATLAB
  • MUST be able to work in-person for the duration of the internship located in Atlanta, GA
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
BONUS POINTS
  • Experience with avionics systems engineering including requirements generation, power budgets, link budgets, mass budgets, functional and environmental testing, and cost analysis
  • Direct experience with hands-on design and integration of microcontrollers, printed circuit boards, power management and distribution, and RF subsystems
  • Direct experience with analog signal conditioning circuitry related to reading sensors including amplification and filtering
  • Direct experience with digital circuitry related to driving motors/solenoids, ARM microcontrollers, and Ethernet communications
  • Experience with electronics test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, network analyzer, logic analyzer, etc...)
  • Understanding of EMI, bonding, and grounding architectures
