Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative invites applications for a Student Intern - Electrical Engineering (TSM) for the summer of 2027 at our Menoken, ND site. The role supports Protection, Controls, and Relaying Engineers in designing and maintaining protection systems and contributing to grid reliability.

You will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic engineering environment, working with ASPEN OneLiner, relay settings, and field/drafting teams while adhering to CIP/NERC standards.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) program with Sophomore year completed, or recent graduate (within 12 months).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Hold a valid driver's license.
• Transcript attachment is required for all student intern positions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining the ASPEN OneLiner Fault Analysis database.
• Assist with developing or modifying protective relay settings.
• Collaborate with engineers to understand bulk electric system and Basin's electrical topology.
• Coordinate with field/drafting to complete record drawings and ensure quality control.
• Ensure CIP/NERC compliance and related standards are met.
• Verify switching diagrams are current at all substation locations.
• Confirm relays communicate with Tarigma GEM and match the access document.
• Conduct CIP Baseline compliance reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
