Job summary

North Wind in Minnesota seeks an Electrical Engineering Intern to support design, development, testing, and documentation of electrical equipment and control systems for wind tunnel and hypersonic facilities. You will work with experienced engineers to create and review drawings, BOMs, and layouts while gaining hands-on experience in engineering documentation and testing.

The internship offers exposure to design reviews, multidisciplinary project execution, and potential travel.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
• Coursework or project experience involving electrical circuits, control systems, instrumentation, power distribution, or electromechanical systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation is beneficial.
• Experience with CAD or electrical design software is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently when appropriate, and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to learn from experienced engineers.
• Must meet applicable U.S. Person requirements due to project security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design, development, and testing of electrical systems, control equipment, and electromechanical components.
• Support the preparation and review of engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and electrical panel layouts.
• Assist with selecting and sizing electrical components, including relays, circuit breakers, switches, motors, and instrumentation.
• Help develop and evaluate control systems involving sensors, valves, servos, motors, and other industrial equipment.
• Support engineering calculations, electrical load assessments, and design validation activities.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, technical reports, and engineering presentations.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, production, and installation teams to troubleshoot issues identified during assembly and testing.
• Participate in design reviews and project meetings to communicate progress, discuss technical challenges, and learn engineering best practices.
• Assist with project planning and tracking to help ensure engineering tasks meet schedule, budget, quality, and customer requirements.
• Support proposal development through preliminary designs, technical research, cost estimates, and engineering recommendations.
