Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Denver, CO to support lead engineers with standard design tasks and project duties across Power, Global Facilities, Transmission & Distribution, and Water markets.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and are legally authorized to work in the United States. Prior internships and campus involvement are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in a related program.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active involvement in campus or community activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and propose fixes.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

1898 & Co.

1898 & Co. is a global business, technology and security consultancy serving critical infrastructure industries. The group helps clients navigate digital transformation and the energy transition, responding to major shifts including the rise of AI. This includes turning business and technology insights into strategic solutions that leverage industry knowledge to build a more intelligent, resilient future.

Power

The Power group is responsible for the planning, design, and startup of power generation and decarbonization technologies. This includes gas turbines, utility-scale battery storage, hydrogen electrolysis, carbon capture technologies, solar, and nuclear plant services.

Global Facilities

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission-critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

Water

The Water group is responsible for the planning and design of facilities and processes related to drinking water supply, treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment, stromwater management, and more. This includes services for all level of government and a variety of industrial clients.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.

  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status. Hourly Range: $19.50-$37.00/hour
  • The expected hourly range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.Benefits

Compensation

$19.50-37.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
