Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Orlando, FL. You will assist with standard design tasks, data entry, documentation, and presenting solutions to project concerns as you support lead engineers on diverse assignments.

Ideal candidates are pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree with ABET accreditation preferred, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate strong communication and leadership. This is a full-time internship with travel around 5% and eligibility to work in the United

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation preferred.
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in a related post-secondary program.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active campus/community involvement and strong communication/leadership skills.
  • Authorized to work permanently in the United States for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design tasks, data entry, documentation, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Support lead engineers on project duties and research solutions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to project concerns and communicate findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to policies.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
