Uni-Systems Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern who will apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges in Plymouth, MN.   • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; juniors/seniors preferred for bachelor’s degree.
  • Self-motivated and curious, with a desire to learn, ask questions, and contribute to real engineering work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply engineering fundamentals to new challenges.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet project deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist design and engineering of electrical systems for industrial automation using PLCs, I/O, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and other controls technologies.
  • Prepare design calculations and documentation, schematics, programming, CAD drawings, test plans, and component specifications.
  • Research materials and components and request quotes from vendors.
  • Review and participate in testing of subsystems and assemblies.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions alongside engineers and other project team members.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and structural engineers on multidisciplinary project work.
  • Participate in special projects within the Electrical Engineering department as needed, including AI-driven design improvements.
  • Support additional engineering activities based on project needs and developing skills.

Job Summary

Uni-Systems Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern who is excited to apply what they are learning in the classroom to unique, real-world engineering challenges.

As a summer intern, you will work alongside experienced electrical engineers as a contributing member of active project teams. Our interns are included in the same project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions as our engineers, giving you exposure to the full engineering process and the opportunity to see how decisions are made throughout a project. You will gain hands‑on experience with industrial automation, electrical system design, programming, CAD drawings, component selection, and prototype testing while seeing how custom systems move from design through fabrication and installation.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your technical skills, learn from experienced engineers, and make meaningful contributions to one‑of‑a‑kind projects.

Internship Experience
  • Full‑time summer internship, 40 hours per week.
  • Internships generally run from late May through late August, with flexibility in start and end dates based on school schedules.
  • Each intern is paired with an experienced mentor who provides guidance and support throughout the summer.
  • Interns participate in periodic lunches, activities, and other opportunities to connect with fellow interns and employees across the company.
