Job summary

The Austin Company in California is seeking a design engineer with a BS in engineering and 3–5 years of related experience to work independently on small projects or segments of larger assignments, applying standard design techniques and exercising independent judgment. Key duties include determining client requirements, reviewing vendor drawings, evaluating design changes, and coordinating with construction personnel on constructability.

Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS in an Engineering discipline with 3–5 years related experience.
  • EIT/EI certification is preferred.

  • Determines client requirements and develops specifications, drawings, instructions, and related documents.
  • Reviews vendor drawings for major components.
  • Evaluates need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities.
  • Ensures that production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
  • May plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of lower-level engineers who assist with particular projects.
  • Prepares technical reports and sections of proposals as requested.
  • May provide direction to and Supervision for Engineering Designers I & II.

Independently performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.

Requirements

BS in an Engineering discipline with 3 – 5 years related experience. This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. EIT/EI certification is preferred.

Travel Required

Yes, up to 25% travel may be necessary.

The hiring/salary range for this position in California is $77,000 - $116,000 per year. Please note that this is a just a suggested framework and salaries could fall outside of this. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience amongst other factors.
