Job summary

Fresh Consulting, a design-led software and hardware engineering firm in Sunnyvale, is seeking an Electrical Engineer V for a 6-month onsite contract. The role focuses on rapid concept bring-up, hardware testing, and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate mixed reality hardware development.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with prototype builds, full-board ownership, and lab-based debugging, with strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Partner with prototype teams to support builds including electrical and mechanical assembly
• Serve as the primary contact for electrical hardware testing and troubleshooting
• Debug hardware using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers)
• Perform PCBA and FPC rework in a lab environment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (systems engineering, architecture, product design, NPI, research)
• Execute multiple workstreams, balance workload, and meet timelines

Title: Electrical Engineer V

Duration: 6-month contract

Location: Sunnyvale, CA – Onsite (5 days/week)

Role:

• Partner with prototype teams to support builds that include electrical and mechanical assembly, component-level placement and rework, and bring-up with engineering teams to accelerate early concept development for mixed reality hardware
• Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical hardware testing and troubleshooting, working with other engineers to root-cause failures and define preventive and corrective actions
• Debug hardware using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
• Perform PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) and FPC (flexible printed circuit) rework in an electrical lab environment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, architecture, product design, NPI, and research
• Execute multiple workstreams simultaneously, independently balancing and prioritizing workload to meet timeline constraints

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience with prototypes or bench electrical assembly, bring-up, electro-mechanical integration, and electrical and mechanical debug
• Full-cycle board ownership experience
• Breadth of experience across electrical engineering domains
• Ability to read and understand schematics and locate components on PCBs using design schematics and layout viewers
• Experience setting up, supporting, and maintaining hardware in a lab environment
• Ability to generate complete assembly and test documentation for prototype assembly and test setups, and share results
• Strong creativity, verbal and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Critical thinker who leverages innovative ideas; detail-oriented team player

Preferred Qualifications:

• Systems-level engineering development and test experience with complex integrated electromechanical assemblies
• Experience with system-level electrical design, including circuit design, system bring-up, integration, and debug
• Experience specifying components, building schematics, completing board layouts, and assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into opto-electro-mechanical systems
• Soldering experience with fine-pitch devices, 0201 or 0402 components, BGA/CSP, and power component rework
• Parts programming experience (FPGA, Flash, etc.) and ability to take scope measurements
• FPGA capability
• Wearables or small-form-factor consumer hardware background
• Firmware or scripting skills to self-serve during bring-up

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Range is $75 to $90 per hour.
