Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in the Baltimore–Washington area is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering and Test Group. You will develop and maintain software for lab testbeds and prototype systems using LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Python to advance maritime sensing research and development.

You’ll support field integration, configure data acquisition, implement sensor interfaces, and refine control routines, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of proficiency with scientific or engineering software tools (LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python).
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition and collection, basic signal processing, and automated test or control scripts using LabVIEW/MATLAB/Python.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams; strong interpersonal, speaking, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software for laboratory testbeds and prototype systems using LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Python; contribute to R&D in maritime sensing.
  • Support laboratory testing and systems engineering by configuring data acquisition, automating procedures, and analyzing measurement data.
  • Implement and refine sensor interfaces in software, including signal conditioning, filtration, and DAQ control.
  • Develop and optimize control/monitoring routines for distributed electronic and sensing systems; apply control theory and modeling.
  • Support field integration and testing, including deployment of data acquisition and control software and post-test analysis.
