Empathy Talent is partnering with an early-stage technology company developing connected sensing and monitoring products for critical power and industrial equipment.
The company is moving from validated technology into broader field deployment and commercialization, building hardware and connected systems designed to improve how electrical assets are monitored and maintained. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage and work across product development, field engineering, and customer deployment.
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer to help develop, test, deploy, and scale connected monitoring and sensor products for power and industrial applications.
Working alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll support hardware integration and system validation while taking an active role in deploying and commissioning systems in real-world customer environments.
This position is ideal for an Electrical Engineer who enjoys working across hardware, connected systems, and field engineering and wants meaningful ownership as a product moves from prototype through commercial deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support integration, bring-up, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of sensors, embedded hardware, and connected systems
- Assemble, configure, and validate pilot and early-production systems while helping improve build and test processes
- Work across hardware, firmware, software, and data systems to troubleshoot integration issues and improve product performance
- Deploy and commission systems at utility, energy, data center, manufacturing, and other industrial sites
- Configure field devices, networking, connectivity, and supporting data infrastructure
- Perform system testing, signal validation, diagnostics, and root-cause analysis during development and field deployment
- Serve as a technical point of contact during customer installation, onboarding, commissioning, and post-deployment support
- Translate field results and customer feedback into product, reliability, and deployment improvements
- Help establish repeatable testing, deployment, documentation, and quality processes as the product scales
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 0-3 years of relevant industry, research, internship, or project experience; strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering, embedded systems, instrumentation, connected devices, or related product development
- Hands-on experience integrating, testing, and debugging sensors, embedded hardware, networking, and connected systems
- Comfortable supporting hands-on installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting in utility, energy, or industrial field environments
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical hardware, communications, and system interfaces
- Ability to work directly with customers and communicate technical information clearly
- Detail-oriented with strong ownership and follow-through
- Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% for customer deployments and field testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing or deploying connected/IoT products for energy or industrial applications
- Familiarity with transformers, inverters, switchgear, or industrial equipment monitoring
- Experience with industrial or IoT communication protocols such as MQTT, Modbus, or similar
- Experience with Python, hardware test automation, or cloud-connected device platforms
- Previous startup experience or experience working in fast-moving product-development environments
What's on Offer
- $100K-$130K base salary plus meaningful equity
- Opportunity to join an early-stage engineering team as the product moves into commercial deployment
- Hands-on ownership across product development, system integration, field deployment, and customer implementation
- Direct collaboration with a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Exposure to sensing hardware, connected systems, software/data integration, and critical power infrastructure
- Opportunity for increasing technical ownership and leadership as the company scales
- Hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area with approximately 20-30% travel
