Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) seeks an Electrical Engineer focused on Power Systems to support sustainment and development of high‑power systems, including megawatt-scale inverters, transformers, and motor controllers for EMALS and AAG. The role involves solving complex engineering challenges, documentation, and acting as a key technical contact on small contracts.

The candidate should have a strong background in electric power, inverter design, and analog/digital controls,

Qualifications

Bachelor's/MS/PhD in engineering or related field and progressive engineering experience.
Experience planning, designing, fabricating, and testing advanced electric power inverters, power systems, and control systems.
Solid understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory; broad application.
Ability to quickly learn new concepts and manage time in evolving environments.
Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills; capable of independent work.
EIT desirable and willingness to travel; DoD security clearance required.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and resolve complex engineering problems to meet design requirements.
Perform detailed design of energy storage, power conditioning, distribution, and control systems for large-scale machinery.
Develop practical innovative solutions for EMALS and AAG systems during build and integration.
Create, update drawings via engineering change processes and lead reviews.
Prepare design inputs and assess obsolescence for continuous operation of systems.
Present reports at engineering meetings and support customer proposals.
