Job summary

Rogue Cortex is seeking a hands-on electrical engineer to own power electronics for our mobile robotics platforms. You’ll take boards from blank schematic through prototype, bring‑up, and production‑grade hardware on real programs with deadlines.

You’ll collaborate with senior engineers to design for high voltage and current, thermal headroom, EMI, and manufacturability, and you’ll help productionize builds as they scale.

Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent hands-on evidence that you can do the work.
  • Solid grasp of power electronics fundamentals: switching topologies, gate drive, magnetics, thermal management, protection schemes, and EMI basics.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout experience in at least one EDA/ECAD package — KiCad, Altium, or Fusion/Eagle.
  • Genuinely comfortable at the bench: soldering and rework, scope, bench supply, electronic load, DMM.
  • Working understanding of the global electronics supply chain, enough to know when a part choice is a trap.
  • Willingness to be wrong in public, quickly, and iterate.

Responsibilities

  • Design – Capture schematics for power conversion, distribution, protection, and switching circuits – Lay out PCBs with attention to current density, thermal paths, EMI, and creepage/clearance – Select components with availability, lead time, and landed cost as first‑class criteria – Design the assembly fixtures and test jigs your boards will need
  • Build and validate – Drive prototype builds through fab and assembly, in‑house or with vendors – Assemble, rework, and bring up boards on the bench yourself – Characterize efficiency, thermal behavior, transient response, and failure modes — then feed what you find back into the design
  • Productionize – Close out DFM/DFT issues, tolerance stack‑ups, and test coverage gaps – Document designs so the next engineer, and the contract manufacturer, can work from them without a phone call – Support builds as they scale

Job description

The role

Power is the hardest constraint in mobile robotics. Every gram, every watt, and every degree of thermal headroom is contested — and the boards that manage, switch, and deliver that power decide whether a platform flies for 20 minutes or 45, survives a hard landing or doesn't.

You’ll own electronics that handle high voltage and high current across our UAV, UGV, and USV platforms and their accessories: taking boards from blank schematic through prototype, bring‑up, debug, and into production‑grade hardware that ships. You’ll do it on real programs with real deadlines, with senior engineers close enough to learn from and enough rope to make consequential calls yourself.

What you’ll do
  • Design – Capture schematics for power conversion, distribution, protection, and switching circuits – Lay out PCBs with attention to current density, thermal paths, EMI, and creepage/clearance – Select components with availability, lead time, and landed cost as first‑class criteria – Design the assembly fixtures and test jigs your boards will need
What we’re looking for
  • Degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent hands‑on evidence that you can do the work
  • Solid grasp of power electronics fundamentals: switching topologies, gate drive, magnetics, thermal management, protection schemes, and EMI basics
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout experience in at least one EDA/ECAD package — KiCad, Altium, or Fusion/Eagle
  • Genuinely comfortable at the bench: soldering and rework, scope, bench supply, electronic load, DMM
  • Working understanding of the global electronics supply chain, enough to know when a part choice is a trap
  • Willingness to be wrong in public, quickly, and iterate
Bonus points
  • Prior work on battery systems, BMS, motor drives, or high‑current distribution
  • Robotics, UAV, automotive, aerospace, or defense‑adjacent experience
  • Experience working directly with CMs; familiarity with IPC standards
  • Embedded C or Python for test automation
  • A portfolio — boards you designed, what went wrong, what you changed. We would rather see one project you can talk about in depth than a list of ten.
