Job summary

SR2 is seeking an Electrical Design & Embedded Systems Engineer at multiple levels in San Jose, CA. You will drive the development of high-performance electrical and embedded systems for advanced robotic platforms, spanning circuit design, PCB layouts, and real-time software integration.

You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, efficient systems for challenging real-world environments, including hardware testing, validation, and field deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience designing embedded electronic systems using microcontrollers, power electronics, or motor control.
  • Strong schematic capture and PCB layout skills using tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Eagle.
  • Experience using circuit simulation tools such as SPICE or ANSYS Electronics.
  • Hands-on experience integrating electronics with mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of hardware testing, validation, and debugging methodologies.
  • Strong embedded software development experience in real-time or safety-critical environments.
  • Proficiency in C++ for embedded development and Python for scripting or automation.
  • Experience working with robotics, automation, or embedded control systems.
  • Ability to integrate software with sensors, actuators, and embedded hardware.
  • Thermal management and high-power electronics design.
  • Embedded Linux or RTOS development.
  • Networking and communication protocols such as CAN, UART, I2C, TCP/IP, or UDP.
  • Performance optimisation for low-latency embedded systems.
  • Experience developing high-reliability or mission-critical products.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical schematics and PCB layouts for embedded and power electronics.

  • Perform circuit simulation, signal integrity, thermal, and EMC analysis to validate designs.
  • Integrate electrical hardware with mechanical systems, sensors, motors, and actuators.
  • Design and optimise printed circuit boards, ensuring robust power distribution and signal integrity.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, layouts, test plans, and design reports.
  • Test, debug, and validate hardware and embedded software in both laboratory and field environments.
  • Optimise system performance, improve efficiency, and reduce power consumption on resource-constrained platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development process.

About the Opportunity

The Role

As an Electrical Design & Embedded Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing high-performance electrical and embedded systems for advanced robotic platforms. You'll contribute across the full development lifecycle, from circuit design and PCB layout through to embedded software development, testing, and system integration.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll help deliver reliable, high-performance solutions for demanding real-world environments.

What You'll Do
