The Electrical Engineer (Power Innovation) is responsible for supporting the commissioning, startup, and turnover of electrical power generation and energy systems. This role ensures equipment and systems are thoroughly tested, validated, and ready for safe, reliable operation while collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the commissioning process.
What are the responsibilities?
As an Electrical Engineer, you will:
- Support electrical commissioning, startup, and system turnover activities from pre-commissioning through project completion.
- Perform and oversee testing, troubleshooting, and verification of power equipment, protection systems, and control systems.
- Review power system studies and confirm electrical systems are ready for safe energization.
- Partner with project, construction, operations, controls, and vendor teams to ensure successful startup and system readiness.
- Prepare and maintain commissioning records, testing documentation, and turnover packages while resolving outstanding punch list items.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, industry standards, and company safety requirements.
- Assist with battery energy storage and power generation system integration, including system performance validation.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvements in commissioning processes.
What are the requirements?
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) or Engineering Technology with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning within industrial or power generation environments.
- Knowledge of electrical power equipment, one-line diagrams, control systems, and commissioning practices.
- Experience performing electrical testing, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
- Familiarity with power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, MATLAB, or similar.
- Experience using electrical testing equipment and protection relay testing tools is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or progress toward licensure is preferred.
- Experience with power generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centers, or FAT/SAT processes is a plus.
